Eagles drop doubleheader to Wolves at home

The Algoma Wolves defeated the Southern Door Eagles twice in Packerland Conference baseball at Brussels on Tuesday, 10-2 and 2-1.

The 1st game outcome was pretty well determined in
the top of the 1st inning, while the 2nd game was not settled until the final batter.

In game 1, the Wolves scored 6 times in the 1st inning
behind hits from Braeden Leist, Carson Leist, and Chase Romdenne, along
with two walks and two Eagle errors. Algoma added two runs in both the 2nd and
6th inning, while Southern Door's runs scored on a 5th inning 2-run HR from
Cash Nellis. Carson Leist took the win over Will Jandrin, with Algoma's
Charlie Prokash being the only player with two hits.

Game 2 saw outstanding pitching performances from both Algoma's Prokash
and Southern Door's Tyler Neinas. The Eagles took a 1-0 lead in the top
of the 1st inning behind an RBI single from Isaac Baudhuin. That lead
would hold until the bottom of the 6th and final inning.

Neinas yielded only one hit in 4.1 innings while being restricted to a pitch count of 35 due to physical issues. Nick Beck finished for the Eagles and suffered a tough
loss.

With darkness falling rapidly, Algoma's Parker Lischka led off the bottom of the 6th inning with a fly ball to right field, which Southern Door's right fielder had not seen off the bat. Upon landing, the ball hopped the fence for a ground-rule double. Lischka was sacrificed to third base and then scored on a
a safety squeeze bunt by Grant Vandervest.

With visibility becoming very difficult, the next Algoma batter drew a walk. A pop fly down the left field line off the bat of Carson Leist fell for a run-scoring double, and Algoma escaped with a 2-1 win.

Prokash earned the win for Algoma, pitching a solid three-hitter, which
included eight strikeouts, 0 walks, and two hit batters.

Southern Door will host Bonduel in a Friday non-conference game with
Bonduel, before returning to Packerland Conference play with a
doubleheader at Gibraltar on Saturday.
