Eagles baseball season begins with win over Reedsville

Southern Door finally started their 2024 baseball season on Friday afternoon with a 12-8 nonconference home win over Reedsville. The Panthers struck early with two runs in the 1st inning on two hits, one walk, and a hit batter off starting pitcher Will Jandrin. The Eagles evened the score with two runs in the bottom of the 2nd behind singles from Nick Beck, Isaac Baudhuin, and a 2-out RBI single from Mason Paye. Southern Door jumped in front 5-2 in the bottom of the 3rd behind hits from Jandrin, Braylon Berg, Baudhuin, and Jerek Valley. After Reedsville added a run in the 4th without the benefit of a hit, Southern Door took control with six runs on five hits in the bottom of the inning to establish a solid 11-3 lead. The rally began with hits from Tyler Neinas, Jandrin, and Berg. A sacrifice fly from Beck, a 2-RBI hit by
Baudhuin and a run-scoring Valley single completed the 6-run avalanche. The rally was answered by a 5-run 7th inning for the Panthers, resulting in the 12-8 final score.

Will Jandrin pitched the 1st three innings for SD, allowing two runs, one earned, while yielding two hits. He struck out 4, along with the 1st inning walk and hit batters. Nic  Beck pitched the 4th inning, and then Tyler Neinas tossed two perfect
innings, which included four strikeouts. Isaac Baudhuin pitched the 7th inning for the Eagles, giving up five runs, 3 of which were earned, on four hits. However, Baudhuin had a perfect 4-4 day at the plate, with his four singles driving in 4 runs. Players going 2-3 for SD included Will Jandrin, Braylon Berg, and Jerek Valley, with Valley collecting 2 RBI.

The Eagles are scheduled to host Algoma for a doubleheader on Tuesday in their first conference games this season.
