Eagles boys outlast Clippers

The Southern Door Eagles boys' basketball team used a big lead at the break to stave off a Sturgeon Bay upset, winning the game 74-66.

The Eagles entered the locker room with a 35-22 lead over their crosstown rivals, thanks to Drew Daoust scoring 21 of his game-high 42 points in the first half. The Clippers would battle back in the second half, outscoring the Eagles by five points and even making it a one-possession game before their visitors could salt the game away in the end. Calvin Richard helped lead the comeback with 15 of his team-high 22 points in the second half.

The Eagles got 12 points from Caden Pierre, eight points from Tyler Neinas, and six from Matthew Malvitz, while the Clippers countered with 12 points from Danny Lodl and 10 points from Garrett Ulberg.

The 42 points from Daoust leaves him all alone at the top of the Packerland Conference scoring list and seven points away from the 2,000-point milestone.
