Southern Door High School

Eagles baseball begins postseason Tuesday on U-102.1

The Southern Door Eagles baseball team will begin their postseason action on Tuesday afternoon when they play host to the Howards Grove Tigers in WIAA Regional Semifinal baseball.

Southern Door will look to make a run through the playoffs that they were not able to do as the top seed last season, falling to the Brillion Lions 3-1 in the regional semifinals. The Eagles are now back in the postseason as a three seed, and will hope a strong regular season carries over to the playoffs. The Eagles played last Monday in their most recent game against Sturgeon Bay, winning both games of the doubleheader 3-2 and 12-2. With their only losses coming against Kewaunee twice and St. Mary’s Catholic, Southern Door hopes to push through division three and make their way to Fox Cities Stadium.

Waiting for the Eagles will be Howards Grove, the sixth seeded team coming off an 8-3 victory over Valders. The Tigers are 11-9 overall and 8-4 in the Big East Conference, good enough for a fifth place finish. The one team that the Eagles and Tigers have played in common was St Mary’s Catholic, with Southern Door losing 3-2 and Howards Grove losing 5-4. The Tigers pitching is the strong suit of their team, and will look to give Southern Door fits on their home diamond.

Gary Barta and Jacob Nate will be on the call from Brussels on U-102.1 and NEWRadioSportsNetwork.com beginning at 4:15 with the pregame show and 4:30 first pitch between the Eagles and Tigers.
