Southern Door softball rallies to defeat Kewaunee on U-102.1

The Southern Door Eagles softball team fought back from a five run deficit in the first inning to steal a victory over Kewaunee 13-8 and advance to the Regional Finals on U-102.1. 

 

Kewaunee began the game with a home run from Breanna Riha making the game an early 1-0 lead for the Storm. A few batters would reach, and then Lexi Hanrahan would belt out a grand slam for a 5-0 lead and a shock to Southern Door. 

 

Chloe Lustila would answer right back however as she drilled a two run home run into the outfield trees to cut the lead down to 5-2. 

 

After having a runner thrown out at the plate, Kewaunee capitalized on a Southern Door error and brought a run home to score in the second, making the game 6-2. 

 

Sophie Counard hit a solo home run in the third inning, as the Eagles were just warming up. Southern Door got to Jenna Rohr and the Storm for six runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Payton Gilbertson would get an RBI the easy way by walking in a run, and then Chloe Lustila would bring in a run with a sac fly to make it 6-5 Kewaunee. After an Ashlyn Delfosse single would bring home Tori Marchant, Callie Miller hit a homer to deep left-center field to give Southern Door the lead for good. 

 

Tori Marchant and Ashlyn Delfosse would hit two more home runs for the Eagles, who had five on the night, as the Eagles would win the game in a 13-8 final. 

 

Southern Door will move on to the Regional Final to take on the top seeded New Holstein Huskies on Thursday night in a game that will be aired on U-102.1.
