Eagles sweep rival Clippers in regular season finale on U-102.1

The Southern Door Eagles baseball team made things interesting in the first game, but took care of business in the second as the Eagles won both games of the doubleheader Monday night on U-102.1.

Game one saw the Eagles fall behind in the middle innings as the first run was not scored until the fourth inning. Emmett Braschnewitz was driven in by Jack Henry's RBI bunt single to give Sturgeon Bay the 1-0 lead.

The Clippers would add on again in the top of the fifth inning as Bryce Plzak would score after reaching on an error on the shortstop Christian Counard. A single by Brody Kollath would do the trick and the underdog Clippers were leading the Eagles 2-0.

Southern Door would answer quickly by posting two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, and then Jaden Diller would play hero in the bottom of the seventh with one out as he lined a single into right-center to bring home Jack Peterson and the winning run.

Game two was much different for the Eagles, who jumped out to a 5-0 lead after the top of the first inning. Southern Door would amass the lead up to the largest of the game in the third inning when the Eagles were ahead 11-0.

Sturgeon Bay would get two RBIs from catcher Caleb Plzak, and the Eagles would put one more run in the column for the final score of 12-2.

Southern Door will have a first round bye and take on the winner of the 6v11 matchup of Howards Grove/Valders. Sturgeon Bay will face Shawano in the first round on Thursday.
