Southern Door took two games from NEW Lutheran on Friday, with quite different results in those games. Game 1 saw the Eagles put the game away with an 8-run 8-hit 1st inning. The monster rally included 2 singles from Tyler Neinas, a double from Jared Hawkey, a 2-RBI triple from Christian Counard, and a bases-clearing triple from Derek Schinktgen. Neinas led the SD 17-hit attack with 4-4, while Jack Peterson went 3-4 including a 4th-inning solo HR. Counard, Hawkey, and Will Jandrin added 2 hits apiece. The game was stopped after 5 innings by the 10-run rule with the score 17-0. Will Jandrin pitched a no-hitter for the Eagles, striking out 9 and walking four.
Game 2 turned into a dogfight, with SD being forced to come from behind 3 different times to claim an 8-7 win, in a contest stopped by darkness after 6 innings. NEW Lutheran jumped to a 3-0 lead in the top of the 1st inning and added 1 in the 2nd to go up 4-0. SD responded with 2 runs in both the 2nd and 3rd innings to tie the score at 4-4. The Blazers regained the lead with a run in the top of the 4th, but a Tyler Neinas triple in the bottom of the frame helped to tie the score a 2nd time at 5-5. The Eagles took their 1st lead of the game in the bottom of the 5th when Matthew Malvitz led off with a triple and scored on a throwing error. The 6th and final inning saw Will Jandrin come in to save the win for Nick Beck. However, with 2 outs and nobody on base, a single, walk, and an error produced 2 unearned runs, and the Eagles came up for their final at-bat trailing 7-6. A lead-off Tyler Neinas single started the winning rally. After an infield ground out, Christian Counard unloaded a triple to the right-center field gap (his 3rd triple of the day) to tie the score at 7-7, and Will Jandrin immediately followed with a walk-off single up the middle to cap a great day for both Jandrin and the Eagles.
The 2 wins brings SD's record to (16-3) on the season, and (12-2) in the Packerland Conference. The Eagles will complete their regular season when they host Sturgeon Bay in a DH at Brussels on Monday afternoon.
