Eagles baseball swept away by Storm

Kewaunee won two extremely competitive games with Southern Door on Monday to take total control in the race for the Packerland Conference baseball championship.

Game 1 saw the storm jump to 3-0 2nd inning lead behind a solo HR from Mitchell Thompson and a 2-run HR from Schaller. Those turned out to be the only 2 Kewaunee hits for the entire game. The Eagles evened the score at 3-3 in the top of the 5th inning behind a brace of singles from Will Jandrin, Taylor Schaefer, Jack Peterson, and Tyler Neinas. The game moved into extra innings with Kewaunee scoring a run in the bottom of the 8th inning for a 4-3 victory without a hit or hitting the ball out of the infield. Thomas Stangel took the win in relief of Cal Ihlenfeldt, while Jaden Diller took the loss in relief of Tyler Neinas. Will Jandrin led Southern Door with 2 hits, including a single and a double.

Game 2 saw the Storm jump out to a 5-2 lead with a 4-run 2nd inning, with the rally including 3 walks and 3 singles. The Eagles clawed back with 1 run in the bottom of the 3rd inning, and then took the lead 6-5 in the bottom of the 4th. The inning featured a Tyler Neinas RBI double and was aided by 2 Kewaunee infield errors. However, a combination of Kewaunee hits and Southern Door infield errors produced a total of 5 runs for the Storm in the 5th & 6th innings, and when the game was called by darkness after the 6th inning, the Storm had emerged with a 10-6 win.

The losses leave SD with a (14-3) season record, and a (10-2) record in the Packerland Conference. The Eagles next travel to Green Bay for a Friday DH with NEW Lutheran.
