Southern Door sweeps doubleheader with Vikings on U-102.1

The Southern Door Eagles used a combination of strong pitching and timely hitting to take both games against the Gibraltar Vikings on Tuesday afternoon on U-102.1, winning 8-1 and 7-4 (in 5 innings.)

Game one was the Jaden Diller show, as he commanded his way through the Vikings lineup through his 5.1 innings of work. Diller allowed just one hit on 10 strikeouts during his outing, and was treated to loads of run support from his offense. Jack Peterson and Tyler Neinas scored four of the six runs that Diller was given for his run support, and the Eagles offense added on two more runs, resulting in a 8-1 final.

Game two went just five innings due to darkness, but since the game was officially a “full game” there was no need to have to come back and play it another day. Tyler Neinas got the ball for game two and was lights out for the first few innings. Christian Counard went deep in the fourth inning for Southern Door, taking a fastball from Aaron Brey way out to left field.

Gibraltar came back with runs of their own in the bottom of the fifth inning, as Rylan Caldecott walked home after a balk from Tyler Neinas and Braden Kita scored on a passed ball, making the game 7-4. Neinas came back and got Nathan Merkel to strike out, to end the fifth inning. The game would be official after that, and would end there after the two teams ran out of daylight.

The winning pitcher of game one was Jaden Diller, and the losing pitcher was Noah Greene. In game two, the winning pitcher was Tyler Neinas, and the losing pitcher was Bennett Isaacson.
