In a game played at the St. Mary's Catholic athletic complex, the
Zephyrs edged the Eagles 3-2. Southern Door took an early 2-0 2nd inning
lead when they took advantage of a botched 2-out infield pop fly.
The error was followed by a Derek Schinktgen single and an RBI single from Alec Guilette. A walk and a wild pitch, followed by a 2-out single cut the Eagles lead to
2-1 in the bottom of the 3rd inning. Southern Door handed St. Mary's
more free runs in the bottom of the 4th inning, when 2 infield errors set the stage for a 2-out single providing the Zephyrs with a 3-2 lead. Although both teams
mounted serious scoring threats in the bottom of the 6th inning,
baserunning mistakes by both teams resulted in no runs being scored. With no additional scoring, his game of mistakes saw St. Mary's hold their lead and escape with a 3-2 victory.
With the loss, Southern Door drops to (5-1) on the season, (4-0) in the
Packerland Conference. The Eagles return to conference play on Tuesday
afternoon when they host Gibraltar in a DH, with the starting time for
game 1 yet to be determined.
