Southern Door High School

Southern Door baseball cruises past Reedsville

In a non-conference game at Reedsville, Southern Door scored 11 runs in the 5th inning to bring an abrupt end to what had been a competitive game. The Eagles scored 2 runs in the 1st inning, including a leadoff home run from Jack Peterson, then added an additional 6 runs in the 2nd inning.

Reedsville scored a 1st inning run without the benefit of a hit and then added 4 runs on 3 hits in the bottom of the 3rd inning to trail 8-5. A 2-run blast in the 4th
inning by Christian Counard made the score 10-5. The roof fell in on the Panthers when Southern Door unloaded 11 runs on 7 hits in the top of the 5th inning, highlighted by home runs from Derek Schinktgen and Tyler Neinas, and a bases-clearing double by Alec Guilette. A couple of runs in the home half of the 5th inning made the final score a very football-like 21-7.

Drew Daoust pitched 3 innings and received credit for the win. The Southern Door hitting attack was led by Tyler Neinas who went 4-5, including a single, 2 doubles and a 3-run home run, and Derek Schinktgen with 3-4, a single, double, and 2-run homer. Players with 2 hits each included Jaden Diller, Christian Counard, Jared Hawkey, and Taylor Schaefer.

Southern Door goes to 3-0 for the season, and resumes conference play with a DH at Algoma on Saturday, with game 1 moved up to a 10:00 am scheduled start.
