Eagle Baseball set to defend Packerland title

After winning their second straight conference championship last season, the Southern Door Eagles will look to chase a third beginning on Tuesday afternoon against the Sevastopol Pioneers, this time with a new face wearing the manager cap.

John Berns, the former Sturgeon Bay and Sevastopol coach will take over Southern Door for this season, looking to lead the team back to the ways of past seasons. Last season, the Eagles finished the regular season 19-2, with their two losses coming in non-conference play against Luxemburg-Casco and Winneconne. After receiving the number one seed in the postseason, Southern Door would be upset by the Brillion Lions 4-2 in round two. The Eagles will return many key contributors, as five out of the seven Packerland All-Conference nominations from last year’s team will return, including the unanimous player of the year, Jack Peterson.

Sevastopol went 4-12 overall in last season’s regular season, finishing 2-8 in Packerland Conference play. The Pioneers will also have a new coach at the helm, as Jim Smasal is set to replace Tom Ash. The team will lose its two nominations from the All-Conference list, as Carter Bieri and Frankie Ash were seniors on the 2022 team. Sevastopol was eliminated by the Gibraltar Vikings in the playoffs to end their campaign last year.

First pitch from Southern Door is set for 4:00 p.m.
