Southern Door's Daoust claims Player of Year honors; talks future of Eagles

Drew Daoust was recently named the Packerland Conference Player of the Year as a Sophomore for the 2022-2023 season.

After leading his team all the way to a Regional Final matchup against Campbellsport Saturday night, Daoust and the Eagles season came to an end after a stunning 43-36 loss. Daoust set many records this season, including having the 17th highest single scoring season in Wisconsin history according to the history books on WSN.

Whether it was his 1,000 point game against Two Rivers, or scoring in the forties in both matchups against NEW Lutheran, Drew Daoust made his name a household one not only in Northeast Wisconsin, but he is hoping around the state and more as he becomes able to be recruited this summer. The day that can happen is June 15th, and Daoust talked about a potential recruitment, and what he can do for it now that the season is over.

The last Eagle to be named Packerland Conference Player of the Year was brother Alex Daoust who won it during the 2020-21 season, and if Daoust showed anyone this season, more awards may be coming for the Sophomore guard in the future years.

Drew currently sits at 1,340 points in his two year varsity career, and is currently 226 points behind the Door County record currently held by Nathan Vogel. At the pace he is at, Daoust may break the county record before the turn of the new year next season.

A county record being broken that has stood for years would be something unheard of, but Daoust wants more, he’s looking for a deeper run into next season's playoffs, and this time with the teammates he’s grown up with. But for now, Daoust seems content with his vacation in Florida.
