Daoust expected to lead Eagles into new season

The Eagles of Southern Door had their seven year streak of conference championships snapped last season after a fourth place finish.

The Eagles were contenders for an eighth straight year all the way to the end of the season, until they fell to the Kewaunee Storm in Kewaunee 61-40. Southern Door was led by freshman guard Drew Daoust all season, as he entered the starting lineup four games into the season and never looked back. Daoust, ranked #18 as a point guard in the state of Wisconsin in the class of 2025, averaged 19.4 points per game on 56% shooting.

Southern Door also sees most of their roster come back, as they lost two seniors who got starter type minutes. Jared Hawkey and Taylor Schaefer are two names to watch for the Eagles, as they were dominant on the defensive end, with Hawkey averaging 2 blocks per game from his Forward spot.

One area Southern Door could improve on to win potentially more games this season is their Free Throw percentage. The team as a whole shot 57.4% from the line throughout the season, where their opponents shot 64%. Southern Door had six losses on their record of 10 points or less, in four of those six losses the team was 50 percent or worse from the line, including a 44% (13/29) performance in a seven point loss to Oconto.

Southern Door opens their season against a new look, yet familiar opponent in Denmark at home on November 22nd. Packerland play begins December 1st in Oconto.
