Eagles Girls Basketball take on new season with a change of coach

The Southern Door Eagles girls basketball team faced a challenging season last year, but will return every single varsity player from last season, including sophomore Kendra Shimon, who earned First Team All-Conference honors in her freshman season.

The Eagles found themselves finishing the season with a 6-19 record overall, and a 5-11 record in the conference, which was good for seventh in the Packerland. Not only does Southern Door get their whole varsity roster back, the Eagles also gain back Allianna Dufek, who made her presence known on the volleyball front in the fall, getting 2nd team All-Conference honors.

The Eagles will also get more years of growth from their guard play, as Junior Payton Gilbertson, and Sophomore Ashlyn Delfosse are expected to take leaps this season to help Southern Door be competitive in the conference. The Eagles have also gone through a coaching change after former head coach Jason Shimon stepped down after one game last season, Taylor Jandrin would go on and be named the interim coach for the rest of last season. Andy Bruess has been given the keys to the team this season, as he was named the head coach to replace Jandrin and Shimon.

The Eagles will open up their season on the road in Wausaukee on Friday November 18th, and Packerland play begins for Southern Door on November 29th against the reigning Packerland champion Oconto Blue Devils.
