Eagles take down Storm Friday night

The Southern Door Eagles were able to out duel the Kewaunee Storm, as they took home the win 19-14 in front of a large crowd in Brussels.

The Eagles delivered the games first two scores, as Drew Daoust ran one in from a yard out, and after a fumble on the ensuing kickoff, Daoust was able to find Derek Schinktgen to make it 13-0 early. That lead would last all the way through halftime, as the Eagles soared into halftime on a high note leading by 13.

Kewaunee was not ready to back down however, as Mitchell Thompson would deliver two dimes to open receivers for deep back to back touchdowns, and Kewaunee found themselves up 14-13 at the beginning of the fourth quarter. The Eagles would then put together a long methodical drive, ending with yet again another Drew Daoust rushing touchdown, but failed on a trick play 2 point conversion to make the score 19-14.

The Storm would have one last chance to score, but Christian Counard would come up with his second game winning interception of the year. NRSN’s Gary Barta was able to catch up with Counard and Drew Daoust after their performances.

The win keeps Southern Door undefeated, and in sole possession of first place over Kewaunee. Kewaunee adds a loss on their record, as they look to regroup next week before the postseason. Southern Door will take on Sturgeon Bay in the Clippers homecoming, and the Storm will host Peshtigo.
