Southern Door High School

Peterson gets recognition

Southern Door quarterback Jack Peterson has gained attention throughout the state the past few days, as he was one of 60 other senior QBs to be added to a Watch List for the David Krieg Award. The award is part of the WSN Senior Award series, where the top senior at each position will receive the award.

Peterson is joined by Mitchell Thompson from conference rival Kewaunee on the preseason list. A second year starter for the Eagles, Peterson will be tasked with once again leading the offense this season. The Eagles return almost all starters to an offense that averaged 18.5 Points Per Game last season, a number that should be much higher this upcoming season.

Peterson was the Packerland Conference All-Conference 2nd Team Quarterback this past season, behind only Mitchell Thompson, who joins him on the list. Peterson threw for 719 Yards last season with 7 touchdowns. Peterson excelled on the ground even more though, rushing for 643 yards and 7 touchdowns as well. He will have his top three receiving targets back this season, with Jared Hawkey, Drew Daoust, and Alec Guilette having caught every single one of his touchdowns this past season. Jack will also have versatile threat Taylor Schaefer back on offense, as Peterson and Schaefer posed a 1-2 running punch that was difficult to stop at times.

Peterson will have to perform well this season to make the semifinalists list at midseason, but the potential for a breakout season is there for the Eagles and Peterson.
