Eagles look to improve under new leadership

The Eagles of Southern Door underwent a coaching change this past offseason, bringing in new Head Coach Mark Jonas. Coach Jonas has been a head coach at Oconomowoc, Kaukauna, and most recently Ashwaubenon. Those jobs led him to become a member of the Wisconsin Football Coaches Hall of Fame in 2022. Jonas takes over for former head Coach Ryan Zuehlke who stepped down from his position last season.

Southern Door was one game short of winning conference last year with a 8-5 record overall, and a 6-1 record in conference, but had their title dreams ended by the Storm. Southern Door is returning most of their team from last year, only losing a handful of seniors, and most notably Offensive Lineman of the Year in the Packerland, Brodie Overbeck.

The Eagles will be leaning on senior linebacker Taylor Schaefer, who was named Defensive Player of the Year in the conference last year, and has received multiple Division II offers over the summer. Southern Door opens their season on Friday August 19th, against the Oostburg Flying Dutchmen. Southern Door defeated Oostburg week 1 last season 25-17 and will look to sink the Dutchmen once again this season.

There appears to be a lot of potential from this Southern Door football team this season, as the starting lineup will almost be the same as before, with all players having an offseason to get stronger and better. The Eagles will look to get revenge on the Storm from last season and bring home a conference championship of their own for their first year head coach.
