Southern Door High School

Welcome back, Jack: Peterson scores three touchdowns in Eagles win

Southern Door overcame three first half turnovers as quarterback Jack Peterson returned from injury and scored three touchdowns, including a game-sealing 71-yard run in Friday’s 22-8 win over Bonduel. Southern Door coughed up two fumbles and threw for an interception shortly before the end of the first half, but the Southern Door defense was able to stiffen up at nearly each pivotal point.

Peterson’s night didn’t start as well as it ended, as he fumbled on the third Eagles play and the Bears took advantage with a one yard touchdown run by Louis Hrabik to make the score 8-0 in the first quarter. Peterson had the first touchdown of his hat trick when he scored on a 19-yard run, in which he was running off the right side of the line of scrimmage, and reversed field and won the race to the opposite pylon. The score and conversion tied the game at 8 apiece with 6:59 left to go in the first half. The ensuing Bonduel possession, Lane Aleson recovered a fumble which set up the first and only Southern Door lead.

A minute after Peterson’s touchdown run, he found Drew Daoust who made a diving grab for a 31-yard touchdown. With 5:58 left on the clock in the second quarter, the Eagles were up 16-8 and would take that lead all the way until there was 3:01 left in the game. While trying not to give Bonduel a legitimate shot to come back into the game in the fourth quarter, Peterson took a designed option to the left, and reversed the other way en route to a 71-yard touchdown run that included multiple broken tackles. The score made the game 22-8, and Southern Door made Bonduel turn the ball over on downs the next possession. Southern Door’s defense held up well after the first quarter, as Taylor Schaefer got an interception and the defensive line kept pressure on Noah Weier throughout much of the game. The Eagles will host Clintonville next Friday, September 24th. Pregame coverage will begin for that game at 6:30 PM on 104.1 WRLU and newradiosports.com, and at 7:00 PM the game will kickoff.
