Door County United Girls Swim Team off to great start

The Door County United Girls Swim Team has been off to an exceptional season so far. Since the swim season had been postponed until the spring, the team has been able to compete in three meets so far.

 

The first meet of the season was a home meet against Pulaski on February 18th. DCU won with 113 points against Pulaski with 63 points. Starting off the meet DCU placed 1st in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:58.92. The relay team consisted of Maggie Ripp who started the relay out, followed by Christy Braun and Phoebe Bissen and ending with Cassie Rankin. In the 50-yard freestyle DCU placed 1st and 2nd. In 2nd we had Phoebe Bissen with a time of 27.40 and in 1st Cassie Rankin with a time of 26.61. After, Phoebe Bissen went on to place 1st in the 100-yard butterfly with a 1:05.57. DCU swimmer Sanya Wienke placed 1st in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:00.78. In the 500-yard freestyle DCU placed 1st and 2nd. Cassie Rankin in first with a 5:54.07 and Brooke Strege in second with a 6:02.38. DCU continued with their great times by winning first and second in the 200 freestyle relay. The first place relay consisted of Christy Braun, Phoebe Bissen, Sanya Wienke, and Cassie Rankin. The 100-yard backstroke placed Maggie Ripp in first with a 1:06.55 and Ella Wienke in second. Ending the night strong, Christy Braun placed first in the 100-yard breast with a 1:10.54. Julia Kurek was not far behind and placed 2nd.

 

The second meet of the season was against DePere and Ashwaubenon at Ashwaubenon on February 27th.. Starting off the evening with the 200 Yard Medley Relay DCU placed first and second. The first-place team won with a time of 1:57.24 and consisted of Maggie Ripp, Christy Braun, Phoebe Bissen, and Cassie Rankin. Christy Braun went on to win second in the 200-yard freestyle and first place in the 100 Yard Breast with a 1:09.93. Sanya Wienke went under a minute in the 100 freestyle with a 59.85, placing her in 3rd. Abi Shauske placed second in the 200 yard IM. Next came the 50-yard Freestyle where Cassie Rankin placed first with a 26.61.  DCU placed second in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay, made possible by Christy Braun, Katie Norton, Cassie Rankin, and Phoebe Bissen. Maggie Ripp placed second in the 100-yard backstroke and Phoebe Bissen placed second in the 100-yard Butterfly. All girls on the team made great contributions to the team allowing them to win first in the meet. With DePere taking 3rd with 534, Ashwaubenon taking 2nd with 651, and DCU taking first with 663 points!  

 

The most recent meet DCU competed in was at home against Manitowoc on March 5th. DCU took the win with 123 points and Manitowoc with 47. Starting out the meet with the 200-yard medley relay DCU placed first and second. The first-place team was composed of Maggie Ripp, Christy Braun, Phoebe Bissen, and Cassie Rankin with a time of 1:58.03. In the 200 yard freestyle, Ella Wienke placed second with a 2:19.01. Abi Shauske placed first in the 200 yard IM with a 2:27.08 followed by Sanya Wienke in second. Cassie Rankin placed second in the 50-yard freestyle with a 26.41. In the 100 yard butterfly, Phoebe Bissen placed first with a 1:05.37, and Faith Blackley close behind in second. During the 500-yard freestyle Christi Braun was on fire and placed second with a 5:33.10. DCU placed first in the 200-yard freestyle with a 1:51.59 and was composed of Maggie Ripp, Abi Schauske, Ella Wienke, and Phoebe Bissen. Maggie Ripp placed first in the 100-yard backstroke with a 1:07.30 followed by Abi Schauske in second. During the 100-yard breaststroke Christi Brauns finished first with a 1:12.22 and Katie Norton in second. The evening ended off with the 400-yard Free Relay where DCU placed first and second. The first-place team swam a 4:00.52 and consisted of Katie Norton, Sanya Wienke, Phoebe Bissen, and Cassie Rankin. It was a great meet for DCU.
