Southern Door baseball gets opening day victory

Opening day for the Southern Door baseball team started off slowly but by the end of the ballgame, the Eagles had come out victorious. In a game that was originally scheduled to be played in Brussels, the game was moved to Green Bay. Southern Door won 9-4 over Green Bay NEW Lutheran as all the runs scored by both teams came in the last four innings.

The Eagles were no-hit through the first three innings by NEW pitcher Samuel Meerstein. Once he left the game, Southern Door was able to capitalize. Derik LeCaptain picked up three hits and two RBI as Southern Door scored nine runs the last four innings including three in the 6th and four in the 7th.

Tyler Kroll started on the mound for Southern Door and put up a solid outing allowing only one run over four innings. He also went 2-5 with 4 RBI at the plate. LeCaptain came out of relief to pick up the win.

The Eagles are now 1-0 on the season. Their next game is scheduled for Tuesday at Sevastopol, first pitch at 5 PM.
