Gibraltar High School

Gibraltar hosts Sevastopol in football opener on 105.1 The GOAT

You will get a double dose of Door County's eight-man football rivalry this season as Gibraltar hosts Sevastopol Friday night.

The new Peninsula Conference for eight-man football created a scheduling quirk for both schools, necessitating the two teams to play a pair of games to reach the necessary eight contests this year. This Friday's game is considered a non-conference game, while the matchup in October in Institute will count as a Peninsula Conference game.

The Vikings won three of their final four games last season to finish just outside the playoff picture at 4-4. The Pioneers went 2-7, finishing their season with three tough losses. Last year's matchup provided plenty of offense as the two teams combined close to 80 points and over 700 yards in the Vikings' 43-36 victory. Both teams bring back to of their best performers in the game in Gibraltar's Braeden Sitte (10 catches, 133 yards) and Sevastopol's Cesar Sandoval (154 total yards, three touchdowns), but will have to navigate it without their field generals in tow after losing them to graduation.

Tim Kowols and Jacob Nate will have the call on 105.1 The GOAT and NEWRadioSportsNetwork.com beginning at 6:45 p.m. with the pregame show followed by the kickoff at 7 p.m.
