Big third inning holds for Wolves softball against Bay Port

On Thursday, the Algoma Wolves softball team beat Bay Port 4-2 on their home turf in Suamico, thanks to a three-run third inning.

Macie Zimmerman delivered the game's big blow, registering a two-run double in the inning that was preceded by a run-scoring error on the Pirates. The host Pirates got one of those runs back in the fourth, but the Wolves answered in the fifth with another run scored off an error.

Brooke Mattson, Ryley Zimmerman, Jadyn Nellis, and Megan Zimmer also got hits in the game for the Wolves, while Macie Zimmerman held things down in the circle, along with two runs (1 ER) on five across seven innings while striking out seven Pirates. HaIley Montie and Ava Plumley had two hits a piece, with Montie and Sydney Rau driving in the lone runs for the Pirates in the loss.

The Wolves will face Roncalli in their WIAA Tournament opener on Tuesday. The game will be carried on 104.1 WRLU.

Wolves' errors lead to loss to Mishicot

The Algoma Wolves suffered a complete letdown on defense Tuesday, as nine errors led to six unearned runs in a 10-5 home loss to the Mishicot Indians.

Starting Wolves pitcher Parker Lischka took the brunt of the poor defense, as only three of his seven runs allowed were earned in his two innings of work. Lischka did hit a long homer, his third of the season.

Charlie Prokash went 1-3 with two RBIs, and Grant Vendervest had two hits for the Wolves, but it was not enough.

Algoma travels to Marinette on Thursday in another non-conference matchup.

Field events lead the way for Algoma at Packerlands
