Phoenix Women Look for First Win Against Loyola Chicago

The Green Bay Phoenix women's basketball team will return home Saturday night to host Loyola Chicago in its home opener at the Kress Events Center.

Green Bay enters the matchup after opening its season Tuesday with a 76-60 loss to No. 4 Duke. Despite the loss, the Phoenix showed promise against a nationally ranked opponent. Maddy Skorupski led Green Bay with 16 points and six rebounds, while Kristina Ouimette added 14 points.

The Phoenix were able to compete with Duke early, taking an 18-16 lead after the first quarter. However, Duke's second-half offense proved too much for Green Bay to overcome.

Green Bay will now look to use its home crowd to its advantage against Loyola Chicago. The Phoenix were picked first in the Horizon League preseason poll and will look to build on last season's success, when they won both the regular-season and tournament championships.

For Green Bay, limiting turnovers, controlling the boards, and getting production from its returning players will be important. A strong start at home could help the Phoenix earn their first win of the season.

Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. Saturday at the Kress Events Center.
