Brewers throttle Rays to arrive on title's doorstep

An eight-run rally with two outs all but guaranteed the inevitable on Monday night as the Milwaukee Brewers beat the Tampa Bay Rays 10-1 to move within one game of their first World Series title in franchise history.

The Brewers struck first in the third inning with Christian Yelich and William Contreras singling in runs to make it 2-0. Former Brewers ace Freddy Peralta kept things close for the Rays until the wheels fell off in the fifth inning with two outs, with the Brewers batting around thanks in part to Cooper Pratt, Sal Frelick, and Jackson Chourio all hitting RBI doubles. Meanwhile, Robert Gasser mowed down the Rays on the mound, pitching six shutout innings while striking out three. With the game no longer in doubt, the Brewers gave one of its longest-tenured players the spotlight when Brandon Woodruff took the mound for the first time since July. He allowed an RBI double to Yandy Díaz, but otherwise struck out one batter and sent the Brewers to a World Series-clinching game on Tuesday.

History is on the side of the Brewers, with teams boasting a 3-0 World Series lead a combined 21-4 in Game 4 contests and have won the title all 25 times it has occurred.

First pitch is set for 7 p.m.
