Another sloppy game cost the Green Bay Packers a divisional game on Sunday, falling to the Detroit Lions on the road 20-17 Sunday evening.
The Lions struck first after Trey Smack missed a short field goal when Jared Goff found Jameson Williams for the 16-yard touchdown. The Packers were able to respond quickly on the next drive when Jordan Love found Tucker Kraft in the end zone for a 14-yard score.
Trailing 10-7 at the break, the Packers took the lead when Josh Jacobs walked the tightrope to score from 25 yards away to make it 14-10. The Lions retook the lead in the fourth quarter on a 10-yard pass to Jameson Williams before they kicked the game-winner as time expired. Smack missed a second field goal on a short field in the half.
The Packers still struggled in the rushing game with 60 yards, though Jacobs had 91 all-purpose yards in his return to the lineup. Love threw for 274 yards with two touchdowns and an interception while Matthew Golden led the Packers with six catches for 39 yards. Christian Watson and Jacobs each had five grabs for over 50 yards apiece. The Packers were penalized eight times for 81 yards, continuing their dubious distinction as the most penalized team in the NFL.
The Packers will have a short week to prepare for the Carolina Panthers, which come to Lambeau on Thursday.
