The Green Bay Phoenix men's basketball team was outscored by more than 18 points in the second half for a second straight exhibition on Monday night, falling to Marquette 80-67 at the Resch Center.
The Phoenix once again kept things competitive against a major in-state power thanks to Ahmere Carson, who scored 27 of his game-high 29 points in the opening period. The speed and aggressiveness tested the rest of the Phoenix squad, however, with the Golden Eagles building up a 15-point lead before they eventually trimmed it down to two in the opening minutes of the second half. The Golden Eagles exerted their will after that point, however, outscoring the Phoenix 42-17 the rest of the way.
Complementing Carson's 29-point effort was Marcus Hall, who scored 10 points. Nigel James Jr.'s 18-point, 10-assist game paced the Golden Eagles while Royce Parham added14 points and Adrien Stevens and Michael Phillips II each chipped in 12 points.
The Phoenix will wrap up their exhibition season on Saturday at the Kress Center against Illinois State. Because of the Milwaukee Brewers World Series game, the game has been moved to 4 p.m.
