The Kolberg Braves jumped out to a 5-0 lead and never let go as they advanced to the Door County Baseball League Playoff Championship game with a 5-2 win over Washington Island.
The Braves used a pair of fly outs and a bases-loaded walk to score three runs in the first inning while adding insurance runs in the second inning on an Austin Rohe RBI double and a wild pitch in the third inning. The Islanders were able to chip away at the deficit in the middle innings thanks to RBI singles by Luke Geiger in the fourth inning and Bennett Isaacson-Krueger in the sixth inning, but they could not get any closer in the back end of the game.
For the Braves, Rohe and Jack Peterson each had two hits while Rohe, Austen Dart, Tyler Neinas, and Nick LeCaptain delivered RBI. Trevor Reinhardt earned the win on the mound, allowing two runs (1 ER) on 10 hits while striking out five.
For the Islanders, Geiger had three hits while Cam Munao and Ray McDonald each clubbed two. Ryan Jorgenson took the loss, allowing five runs (5 ER) on five hits and five walks over 2.1 innings.
The Braves will now face the Bays in Sister Bay on September 6th for the playoff championship title. Tim Kowols will have the call on 105.1 The GOAT beginning at 1:15 p.m. followed by the first pitch at 1:30 p.m.
