West Jacksonport used 12 walks and three hit-by-pitches to pile up runs and snap an extended losing streak as they beat Institute on the road 13-7 Friday night.

 

 

The Ports jumped on the Cubs early with three first inning runs and built up a 4-0 advantage before the Cubs scratched across a run in the third inning. That run was given right back in the top of the fourth inning with the Ports scoring five times with a two-out, two-run single by Jack de Young being the frame's biggest blow. The lead was 10-1 before the Cubs mounted their comeback. Buoyed by a two-run double by Caleb Hoffman, the Cubs scored five times in the game to shring their deficit to 10-6.

 

 

As was the case the other time the Cubs cracked the scoreboard, the Ports had an answer. Luke Steebs drove in a run in sixth before Sam Zirbel got it back on a passed ball.

 

 

The Cubs were still down by four entering the ninth before Eric Bley's pinch-hit double drove in a pair to stretch it out to 13-7 where the game would end.

 

 

For the Ports, Riley Cordier had three hits and two RBI while C.J. Goetz had two hits. Alec Schartner, Bley, Jack de Young and Frankie de Young also had two RBI a piece. Peyton Kuehn earned the win, striking out five acros 1.2 no-hit innings.

 

 

For the Cubs, Will Hartman went 2-4 with one RBI while Zirbel also drove in a run on one hit. Siggy Hansen took the loss, allowing nine runs on six hits and eight walks across four innings while striking out two.
