Despite being winless on the season, the Institute Cubs can still have an impact on how the final standings of the Door County Baseball League shake out with a matchup against West Jacksonport on Friday night.
The Cubs came off the ferry on Sunday with a 10-0 defeat to Washington Island on Sunday. Caleb Hoffman, Siggy Hansen, and Tommy Junion each had one hit. Hansen took the loss, allowing nine runs (6 ER) on 10 hits and four walks while striking out four.
The Ports could not rattle the top of the DCBL standings either on Sunday, losing to Sister Bay 12-7. Drew Tanck and Payton Kuehn each had three hits while Woody Schartner, Frankie de Young, and Luke Steebs all had two. Tanck paced the Ports with three RBI. Kuehn took the loss on the mound, allowing seven runs (7 ER) on eight hits across four innings while striking out six.
With three games remaining, the Ports need all the help they can get to climb from being tied with Egg Harbor in sixth place to fourth place to qualify for the playoffs, a spot currently held by Baileys Harbor (6-5).
