The Ahnapee Trailblazers Legion saw their season come to a close over the weekend with a pair of losses to Kewaunee County and Ashwaubenon in the Varsity Regional Tournament.

 

Kewaunee County 3, Ahnapee 0

Both teams were strong on the mound Thursday, but Kewaunee County defeated Ahnapee 3-0. Although Siggy Hansen took the loss for Ahnapee, he turned in a strong performance. Hansen pitched six innings, allowing one earned run on four hits while striking out four and walking one. Owen Dannhausen led Ahnapee with two hits in three at-bats. Siggy Hansen and Charlie Reinhardt each added a hit, while Jacob Massey and Aaron Brey each drew two walks. 

 

Ashwaubenon 6, Ahnapee 5

Despite outhitting Ashwaubenon 11-6, the Ahnapee Trailblazers came up just short in a 6-5 loss. Untimely walks in the fifth inning proved to be the difference as Ahnapee issued four walks that led to four runs. Trailing 6-2 entering the sixth inning, Ahnapee scored twice to cut the deficit to 6-4. After holding Ashwaubenon scoreless in the bottom of the sixth, the Trailblazers mounted one last rally in the seventh. Connor Mueller led off the inning with a base hit, his third of the game, and later scored on a Jacob Massey double to make it 6-5. Ahnapee could get no closer. Mueller led the offense with three hits and two runs scored. Bo Tanck, Aaron Brey and Owen Dannhausen each collected two hits, while Jacob Massey and Siggy Hansen added one apiece.

 

Season recap

While the record may not reflect it, the Ahnapee Trailblazers had a successful season. The varsity team, made up primarily of 16U players, competed at a high level throughout the summer. Although inexperience often made the difference in one-run games, the team showed noticeable growth as the season progressed. Along the way, friendships were formed, hotel beds became wrestling mats, football games broke out in the pool, late-night adventures were had and plenty of quality baseball was played. Coach Massey said he could not be more proud of the players. The Trailblazers also fielded a JV/17U team in addition to the varsity/19U team. The 17U squad had a successful season, finishing fourth at the Marinette Regional Tournament. The organization plans to continue building the program while providing local high school athletes with a competitive and enjoyable summer baseball experience. With the team's continued development, the future looks bright, and the Trailblazers hope to make a run at the state tournament in the coming years.
