Area football teams get first taste of fall

The calendar says summer, but the area's high schools will see a glimmer of fall this week.

Coaches across the state have been allowed  contact days between June 1 through June 30 and July 7 through July 31, though July 25 is the final day that football coaches can have contact with their kids ahead of the official start to the fall season.

The football season officially starts on August 4, which is the first day of practice for eight-player and 11-player teams. The first games can take place as soon as August 20.
