Back in Week 9, Sister Bay made a decision that may have changed their season for the better. Hot off of two back-to-back losses to Kolberg and an upset loss to Baileys Harbor, Tom Sawyer was boosted up into the top spot in the Bays lineup, and since then, the offense has turned its season around. Week 11 against Maplewood was no different, as each Bay 1-9 found his way on base.
However, it was Maplewood that got the offensive fireworks going, as a second-pitch double from leadoff batter Kody Kissinger was then immediately scored off an RBI single from Jaden Diller. Within the first two batters, it was already 1-0 Mets. Diller would then be driven home by a sacrifice fly from Kordell Draves, and Maplewood was out to a dream start, two runs in the top of the first for their star pitcher Tory Jandrin.
The storyline coming into the matchup was focused on the Bays first inning results and how Jandrin had thrown 5 straight scoreless games. A pair of walks from Sawyer and Stew Larsen had two runners on to start the inning for Sister Bay. Jandrin would regather with consecutive outs, but a hit by pitch of Alex Laughlin would load the bases for Griffin Cole. The number six hitter would record the first hit of the day for the Bays, as a 2-RBI single would tie the game up at 2. A full-count fastball to the very next hitter, Sawyer Johnson, would become the same result, a 2-RBI single, and quickly the two-run lead from Maplewood became a two-run 4-2 deficit.
The bottom of the second would be the same for Sister Bay, two singles from Sawyer and Larsen, and a hit by pitch loading the bases. This time, however, it was the cleanup batter Matt Hecht, who was lifted into that role the same time Sawyer was sent to leadoff the lineup, lacing a 2-RBI double into left field and making it 6-2. An RBI groundout from Alex Laughlin and an RBI single from Griffin Cole, and it was another four-run inning, quickly 8-2 for Sister Bay.
Sam Forkert may not have had his A stuff today versus the Mets, but it was nothing even close to the performance from the week prior. Once the Bays began piling runs on the board, the left-hander settled in, quickly retiring the Mets through the middle innings. Three more runs, two of them being scored by fresh face Casey Weddig, and it was 11-2 Sister Bay with no signs of the Maplewood offense mounting a comeback.
Maplewood offensively was not as effective as they have been the past few weeks, as they were searching for multiple hits together to put runs on the board. Jaden Diller would record another RBI by way of a sacrifice fly, and the Mets would score two other times in the 6th and 7th to make the game 13-5.
Tom Sawyer would offensively lead the charge as the Bays would finish the game in 8 innings by scoring two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning, making the final 15-5. Sawyer would finish the day 2 for 2 with a single and a double, but reach base all five times in the afternoon, tallying three walks as well. Sam Forkert would once again pick up the win for the Bays, with Tory Jandrin picking up the loss for Maplewood. The Mets fall to 4-6 overall and snap their three-game winning streak. They will take on Kolberg at home next week. Sister Bay starts a three-game streak of their own at 8-2 and will head to West Jacksonport next week on 105.1 The GOAT.
