Gamblers close regular season with 3-1 win over Capitols

The Green Bay Gamblers capped off their regular season in style Saturday night at the Resch Center, knocking off the Madison Capitols 3-1 in front of 7,219 fans to close the year at 21-9-2-2.

Green Bay came out firing, outshooting Madison 13-9 in the first period and setting the tone early. Gulley opened the scoring just over two minutes in on a power play, his 24th of the season. Madison answered late in the first as Stout evened it at one on a power play of their own.

The second period was physical as both teams combined for six penalties in the middle frame, including a pair of roughing calls assessed simultaneously. Through all the chaos, Wooten found a way to put Green Bay back in front at 12:39, his 35th of the year.

A flurry of penalties were assessed in the final three minutes of the third and things got heated as the clock wound down. Green Bay's Katz put it away with an empty net goal at 17:58 to seal it.

Henriquez was sharp in net for the Gamblers, turning away 21 of 22 shots. Madison's Cruitt stopped 29 of 32 in the loss. Green Bay held a commanding 32-22 edge in shots on goal and went one for four on the power play while holding Madison to one for five.

Madison seals their season with the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference meanwhile the Gamblers rally from a rough spot in the second half finishing third with 82 points overall.
