Gamblers pull away late to take down Tri-City 5-2

Green Bay earned a 5-2 win over the Tri-City Storm Friday night, riding a strong third period to keep momentum building in the Eastern Conference after clinching a playoff spot last weekend.

The Gamblers struck first in the opening frame. Conboy finished assists from Will Wooten and Jette at 8:37 to give Green Bay an early lead.

In the second period, Green Bay added to the lead on a Samuelsson power-play goal before Tri-City answered with back-to-back goals in just over a minute to tie it at 2.

The third period was all Gamblers. Kasper Katz got the lead back on an early power play, and Hafele and Rozsíval added insurance goals to seal the win. Green Bay converted both power-play chances and kept Tri-City off the board in the final frame.

Tri-City peppered 35 shots on goal, but netminder Raul “Junior” Henriquez came up big stopping 33 to keep the Gamblers in control. Though Green Bay was outshot by the Storm 27-35 overall, the Gamblers stayed disciplined enough to take advantage of key opportunities throughout the game.

The win gives Green Bay a boost as they start closing in on the final weekend series of the regular season.

For now, it's a strong start to the weekend series with Tri-City in Kearny, Nebraska.
