The Green Bay Gamblers were minutes away from closing one out Friday night, but a late surge from the Dubuque Fighting Saints forced overtime, where Green Bay fell 4-3.
After a scoreless first period, the Gamblers struck first in the second. Ryan Knutson opened the scoring at 1:50 with assists from Tate Hafele and Kasper Katz. Dubuque answered on the power play midway through the period, but Will Wooten gave Green Bay the lead back late in the frame, finishing a feed from Katz to make it 2-1 heading into the third.
Green Bay added to the lead early in the final period. Just 16 seconds in, Wooten found the back of the net again, his second of the night and 31st of the season, to push the advantage to 3-1.
From there, Dubuque flipped the momentum. The Fighting Saints cut the deficit to one with just over three minutes to play, then found the equalizer at 18:33 to send the game to overtime.
In the extra frame, Dubuque completed the comeback with the game-winner at 3:54.
The Fighting Saints outshot Green Bay 34-24, while Raul “Junior” Henriquez made 30 saves in the loss.
