Green Bay women stay queens of the Horizon League

The Green Bay Phoenix women's basketball made it three straight Horizon League Tournament titles Tuesday afternoon, defeating the Youngstown State Penguins women's basketball 57-49 at Corteva Coliseum in Indianapolis.

Green Bay jumped out to a quick 5-0 start, but the offense cooled as Youngstown State settled into the game. The Penguins were able to take a 28-25 lead into halftime.

Coming out of the break, Green Bay’s defense began to take control of the game. The Phoenix held Youngstown State to just 21 second-half points, including only 10 in the fourth quarter.

The Penguins briefly reclaimed the lead at 43-42 in the final period, but Green Bay responded with a decisive 9-0 run to regain control and close out the championship victory.

Jenna Guyer led the Phoenix with 21 points on 7-of-11 shooting and was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player. Maddy Skorupski added 13 points and earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team.

With the win, Green Bay secures its third consecutive Horizon League Tournament title and earns another trip to the NCAA Tournament. It will mark the program’s 21st appearance in March Madness, with matchups set to be announced next week.
