Phoenix women topple Titans to advance in Horizon League Tournament

Green Bay Phoenix fans will now have two teams to cheer on in Indianapolis this weekend after the women beat Detroit-Mercy 81-57 at the Kress Events Center in the Barbasol Horizon League Championship First Round.

The Titans gave the Phoenix all they could handle for the majority of the game outside of one five-minute stretch at the end of the first half. During that time, the Phoenix rattled off 19 straight points to make it a 44-25 game at the break. The Phoenix would extend their lead to nearly 30 points in the third quarter before settling on the final margin.

It was a milestone night for Horizon League Player of the Year Jenna Guyer, who scored her 1000th career point as a part of a career-high 25 points to go along with nine points.  Maddy Skorupski registered a rare triple-double of 12 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists while Carley Duffney added 14 points and Meghan Schultz chipped in 13 points.

The Phoenix will await the winner of No. 5 Purdue Fort Wayne and No. 7 IU Indy for their semifinal matchup on Monday at 11 a.m. in Indianapolis.

On the men's side, the Phoenix will play Northern Kentucky on Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
