Green Bay men advance in Barbasol Horizon League tournament

Taking on Purdue Fort Wayne inside the Resch Center, Green Bay looked for their first Horizon League tournament win since the 2019-20 season.

The Phoenix swept the Mastodons in the regular season and the success continued into the first half of play Tuesday night.

Green Bay built a 34-22 lead going into the break off 50 percent shooting from the field and 4-of-10 beyond the arc.

Offensive production slowed in the second half, but not enough to down GB as they rolled to a 64-56 win. The Phoenix were led by Marcus Hall's 19 points (7-13). Helping him in double figures was Justin Allen grabbing 13 and Preston Ruedinger with 11. Ruedinger also tabbed 8 assists to spread the wealth.

A 14-6 advantage in points off turnovers went in favor of Green Bay and proved to be enough of a difference maker in the victory.

For Green Bay, it's another big step forward in rebuilding a program that has at times had success, but unable to sustain. The Phoenix will play again March 8th or 9th at the Corteva Coliseum depending on the outcomes from the rest of the first-round games.
