Phoenix men survive scare from Norse

A team from Green Bay saw an 18 point lead disappear for the second straight day, but the Phoenix men wrote a different script on Sunday, holding on to beat Northern Kentucky 80-78.

As they did in their two previous games, a hot start shooting from the field gave the Phoenix enough of a cushion to stave off any comeback attempts. Caden Wilkins led the first-half assault with 17 points as the Phoenix jumped out to a 7-0 start and ended the period with a 51-35 halftime lead. The Phoenix would build a 56-37 advantage before the Norse got hot from beyond the arc, trimming the lead to just four points with under five minutes to play. The Phoenix and the Norse traded buckets throughout the final stretch with a last-second three rimming out acting as a sigh of relief for the home crowd.

Justin Allen led all scorers with 27 points to complement Wilkins' first-half heroics while Marcus Hall added 13 points and Preston Ruedinger chipped in nine points in the Phoenix victory.

The Phoenix play at Cleveland State on Thursday before returning home on Sunday to host Oakland on Sunday at 1 p.m.
