Another fast start from the Green Bay Phoenix women's basketball helped them earn the 78-63 road win over Oakland on Thursday.
Jenna Guyer scored 11 of her 20 points in the first quarter, helping turn a slim 8-7 lead into a 21-9 advantage at the first intermission. After allowing the Golden Grizzlies nibble at the deficit in the second quarter, the Phoenix outscored the Golden Grizzlies 21-13 in the third quarter to keep their opponents between 15 and 20 points off the pace until the final minutes of the game.
Maddy Skorupski scored 21 points in her return performance against her former squad while Carley Duffney added 17 points in the win. Angie Smith led a trio of Oakland starters in double figures with 14 points.
The Phoenix battle the Detroit Mercy Titans in a Saturday matinee to close their Michigan swing with a tip-off scheduled for 12 p.m.
