Three former Green Bay Gamblers players were recently part of the U.S. Collegiate Selects team that made a historic run at the Spengler Cup, an invitational Ice Hockey tournament in Davos, Switzerland. Matt DiMarsico (Penn State University), Adam Gajan (University of Minnesota Duluth), and Danny Nelson (University of Notre Dame captain) helped the team become the first US-based squad to reach the championship game since 1988, defying pre-tournament predictions that had them slated to finish last. This year's tournament also marked the first time in the Spengler Cup's 102-year history that the NCAA sent a full team of Division 1 athletes. The U.S. team won the Cattini Group and then upset HC Sparta Praha of the Czech Republic 5-3 in the semi-finals before ultimately falling to host team HC Davos 6-3 in the championship game.
