For the second year in a row, the Casco Athletics found heartbreak in the Shoreland League Championship Series, losing to Denmark on Thursday 1-0 in 10 innings.
The Athletics had their chances, piling up six hits and drawing three walks across the 10 innings. Their best chance came in the second inning when they loaded the bases with no outs, only to walk away from the frame scoreless. They had at least one base runner in the eighth, ninth, and tenth innings, but could not get the necessary break to push a run across. The Devilbears finally prevailed in the top of the tenth when Ethan Ovsak clubbed his third hit of the game for a double and came around to score after Jaycob Dittmer singled and an error by outfielder Patrick Daniels allowed both baserunners to advance.
Owen Deprez led the A's with three hits while Mitch Jandrin, Kyle Routhieaux, and Trevor Reinhardt each had one. Cole Bzdawka was the hard-luck pitcher for the A's, allowing one run (1 ER) on seven hits while striking out eight. Devilbears pitchers, Logan Paplham and Reece Piontek combined to strike out 16 batters while shutting out the A's.
