The Casco Athletics will have to win two straight to end their season on a high note after losing the first game of their Shoreland League Championship Series 2-0 to Denmark on Monday.
The Athletics outhit the Devilbears 5-2, but it was an error that pushed across the game's first run in the seventh inning when Hayden Konkol scored from second. Two errors in the eighth helped the Devilbears score their insurance run. The three errors spoiled a strong performance from Collin Lacey, who allowed the two runs (0 ER) on one hit, striking out seven along the way. Kyle Routhieaux matched the Devilbears' offensive output with two hits, with Lacey, Owen Deprez, and Cole Bzdawka also contributing.
The Athletics can keep their season alive with a win on Wednesday in Casco, which would force a decisive third game on Thursday in Casco. The first pitch both nights are 7:30 p.m.
