The Green Bay Blizzard delivered a thrilling performance Friday night, edging out the Quad City Steamwheelers 71-64 to claim the Eastern Conference Championship and punch their ticket to the IFL title game.
From the opening kickoff, the game was electric. Andre Williams set the tone by returning the opening kickoff for a touchdown, and kicker Andrew Mevis’s extra point and subsequent kickoff deuces kept the scoreboard ticking early. QB Max Meylor and ATH TJ Davis connected multiple times throughout the night, with Davis finishing the game with an incredible four touchdowns.
Though the Steamwheelers battled back, scoring on nearly every possession and leading briefly in the second half, Green Bay stayed resilient. RB Kymani Clarke was a powerhouse on the ground, rushing for three touchdowns and providing crucial momentum-shifting plays.
The game came down to the wire with penalties and special teams plays adding to the drama. Mevis’s three kickoff deuces proved vital, while a late safety and a clutch onside kick recovery helped seal the win.
With this 71-64 victory, the Blizzard earned their right to face the Vegas Knighthawks in the IFL Championship game Saturday, August 23, in Tucson, AZ. Kickoff is set for 9:30 PM CST, and Green Bay will be looking to bring home their first-ever IFL title.
