A third-inning hit parade, led by Davis Hamilton and Will Johannes, proved too much for the Rockers to handle Saturday evening as they fell 9-4 to the Mallards.
Once again, Green Bay struck first, scratching across a run on a fielder’s choice that scored Xaige Lancaster in the third. But Madison responded immediately in their half of the inning. A double from Hamilton (4-for-5, 2B, 3 RBI) drove in a pair, and he would later score on a groundout to first. Johannes then (3-for-4, HR, 3 RBI) capped off the four-run inning with a deep drive to center field.
Madison would go on to score in every inning that followed. A sacrifice fly from David Ballenilla brought the game within four in the sixth, and a last-ditch effort in the top of the ninth plated two unearned runs on back-to-back doubles from Brayden Buchanan and Lancaster, but the Rockers’ fate was already sealed, dropping their third straight.
Lancaster and Buchanan both collected two hits and an RBI for Green Bay.
The Rockers are back in Madison for one more before returning home for a six-game homestand at Capital Credit Union Park, with the regular season finale set for Saturday, August 9th, back in Madison.
