Rockers' Early Lead Not Enough to Down Woodchucks

A first inning 2-0 lead for the Rockers slowly faded in the final game of a home-and-home for Green Bay and Wausau tonight leading to a 6-2 loss.

With one out and one on in the first inning Joe Mennella took the first pitch he saw over the fence in left field for his fifth homerun of the season and propelled the Rockers to an early two-run lead. It came a night after his homerun left them shy of victory once again.

The Woodchucks would plate their first in the third after Rockers' righty Evan Bogart hit Dom Rodriguez pushing across Malone. A fifth-inning RBI single by Max Soliz tied the game at two, before Wausau broke it open with two-run innings in both the sixth and seventh.

Green Bay was held to just three hits in the loss, with Mennella accounting for two of them (2-for-3, HR, 2 RBI). Malone led the way for Wausau from the leadoff spot, going 2-for-3 with a walk, a hit-by-pitch, and 3 RBI.

The Rockers are set to face a new opponent tomorrow with first pitch at 6:05pm in Madison as the regular season approaches the finish line.
