Both teams had nine hits, but it was Washington Island that cashed in on them in a 4-0 win over Maplewood on Sunday.
The Islanders broke the gridlock in the fourth inning thanks to an error before Troy Jorgenson drove in a run on a single to make it 2-0 in the sixth inning. The Islanders doubled their lead one inning later when Luke Geiger doubled in Matt Foss and Caleb Cornell to make it 4-0.
Geiger went 4-4 with two RBI to lead the Islanders while Matt Johnson also had a two hit day for the home team. Kody Kissinger and Kordell Draves each had three hits for the Mets.
Ryan Jorgenson and Hans Hansen combined to shut down the Mets, striking out seven across the nine innings. Tory Jandrin posted the loss for the Mets, allowing four runs (3 ER) on eight hits across 6.1 innings.
