A three-run fifth inning gave West Jacksonport some breathing room late in a 5-1 win over Institute Friday night.
The Cubs struck first in the opening inning after Jaeger Brusky drove home Robbie Pollman on an RBI double. The Ports locked down on Cubs hitting after allowing two extra base hits in the first inning, allowing just two more hits the rest of the game. The Ports tied the game in the third inning before their three-run rally. The Ports collected four singles in the frame with hits from CJ Goetz and Max Bordeau driving in runs. The Ports' Goetz added insurance in the eighth inning with his second RBI single in the game.
Woody Schartner went 5-5 to pace the Ports' 13-hit effort with Goetz adding three hits and Bordeau posting two. Brusky and Pollman were responsible for all four of the Cubs hits. Drew Tanck earned the win for the Ports on the mound, allowing one run (1 ER) and four hits across eight innings with eight strikeouts.
