DCL: Bays hold off Braves in championship rematch

The Sister Bay Bays held off a late rally by Kolberg to win their opening day matchup against the Braves 4-3.

The Braves struck first in the third inning when Logan Jeanquart drew a bases-loaded walk to make it 1-0. The Bays finally got their breakthrough in the sixth inning when they scored two runs on an error and added an exclamation point with a Griffin Cole RBI single. An insurance run crossed the plate on an error in the bottom of eighth inning and loomed large when Trevor Reinhardt hit a two-run homer in the ninth inning to make it a 4-3 game. Matt Hecht closed the door after that, allowing a single but inducing two more outs to give the Bays the win.

Tom Sawyer collected three hits to lead the Bays while Reinhardt and Charlie Neinas each had multi-hit games. Reinhardt took the loss on the mound, allowing three runs (0 ER) on five hits while striking out eight across seven innings. Sam Forkert went five innings of scoreless ball, allowing six hits while striking out four.
